Well unless you have been living under a rock, you will no doubt be aware that Leicester has a new celebrity. Well an old celebrity actually – very old in fact. King Richard III’s remains have been found literally a crown’s throw from Maiyango.

Having laid buried and hidden for over 500 years, Dickie’s skeleton was unearthed just recently and we at Maiynago are both curious and excited. Everyone in our team has a different view on the discovery. Phil – our eccentric exec chef – commented that he had been inspired to try some medieval recipes while Marley in the Deli predicted that Richard would have been a cappuccino drinker rather than the traditional tea of the Royals. One of our street smart Restaurant team asked a good question – given that King Richard was found buried on the site of a car park, does he have a huge fine to pay for overstaying the 8 hours allowed parking or will Leicester City Council let him off?

Sadly we may never know the answers to the questions, but what we do know is that this event will put Leicester in the minds of millions of more people. The news coverage across the nation has already hit huge levels and there is sure to be more to follow as further insights are unearthed. For us proud Leicesterians this just adds further spice and colour to our already great city. We here at Maiyango will be working hard to make sure that we put our own little spin on the discovery so do keep a close eye on our website, twitter feed and facebook page.

Well unless you have been living under a rock, you will no doubt be aware that Leicester has a new celebrity. Well an old celebrity actually – very old in fact. King Richard III’s remains have been found literally a crown’s throw from Maiyango.

This is a pretty huge discovery I think you’ll agree. I mean, yeah sure, it’s not like we’ve found the Temple of Doom underneath Vicki Park and I’m pretty sure that the archaeologists digging up Richard were more concerned about the rain rather than a giant boulder of death rolling towards them but this is a pretty amazing thing that has happened in Leicester. By the way, if those last two references don’t make sense then do yourself a favour – get the Indiana Jones Box Set from HMV on the High Street grab a couple of coffees and gourmet sandwiches from the Maiyango Deli and settle in for a night of pleasure! If those two references do make sense to you, well, do the same thing – Indiana Jones rules!!

Now don’t ask me how this has been figured out but apparently King Richard was a Brummie. While the science behind this claim is well beyond my comprehension, interestingly this does answer another long debated question here in the Midlands – Leicester clearly has food, nightlife and shopping fit for a king compared to Birmingham.

Having laid buried and hidden for over 500 years, Dickie’s skeleton was unearthed just recently and we at Maiynago are both curious and excited.

If you’re looking for the perfect venue for your big day then look no further than the Heritage Quarter Wedding Showcase in the City Centre, what better way to spend your big day than in the heart of historical Leicester. The Showcase begins at 1pm at Hotel Maiyango with welcome cocktails and will continue onto The Guildhall, St Martins House and finish up at 3pm in Leicester Cathedral, which was recently visited by The Queen at the beginning of her 2012 Diamond Jubilee Tour.

Attendees will be guided to each of the four locations, following the cream balloons, and will have the opportunity to speak to some of our most valued suppliers to discuss any questions. Each venue will be dressed, with music and lighting to set the scene so guests can get the idea of what their big day could look like!

If you are interested in attending this event or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact dreamweddings@maiyango.com and our very own wedding planner will be available to help.

As we all know, this week is host to one of the most patriotic celebrations of the year, The Queens Diamond Jubilee tour. Leicester has already been flying the flags and hanging the bunting around the city in true British style. So why not take inspiration from this enormous and recognisable public event and use it to be creative with your big day! Here are a few handy hints and tips to get you started!

If you’re proud to be British and want to use your heritage as the perfect theme for your big day then why not use a classic, or if you prefer the more modern look, a new BMW Mini to transport you to the altar! You can select from an array of colours, perfect to match colour schemes, and some Mini’s even have the Union Jack painted on the roof! Perfect for a little touch of quirkiness on your special day!

Or if you’re feeling more extravagant then why not hire a big red bus to transport your guests or yourself on the big day! It’s a perfect solution for transporting large groups of people and adds another touch of uniqueness to British themed wedding.

Decorating your venue is always an important part of the day, and while we’re maintaining the British theme then it would be a perfect solution to use Bunting and Union Jack flags as well as the famous Red, White and Blue colour scheme. The bunting could be hung around the location, around tables, along walls and even from window sills, whilst making use of the Union Jacks as table covers, napkins and wall hangings.

These are just a few ideas you could use just to get you started, the options are endless and will give your big day that special British touch.

As we all know, Easter is nearly upon us! That time of year when we can tuck into those tasty chocolate eggs and yummy hot cross buns and not feel too guilty about it! So why not embrace this time of year and use it as inspiration for your wedding planning, for that extra touch of uniqueness, here’s a few suggestions to set you off.

Help your guests get in the swing of Easter this year and save yourself some money at the same time by using hard boiled eggs as place names. Although it may not sound too glamorous the end result is sure to be a creative success and will definitely be a conversation starter between guests! If you’ve got some spare time in your hectic schedule of planning and organising or maybe you just want a break then this idea could be the perfect escape. Firstly you will need a list of your guests with names and totals of guests attending, then pop to your local shop or supermarket a buy enough eggs so each guest will have one (and maybe a few spare just in case). After returning home pop the first batch of eggs in the pot to hard boil them which should take approximately 15 – 20 minutes. After having boiled up your first batch put the next load on to boil then get started on your stress-free painting! You can choose from a variety of designs and maybe give each egg a personal touch if you know your guests particularly well, or for those of us with a not so steady hand just use stencils, stickers or transfers to add their name, the options are endless!

Let’s not forget the younger guests or even the young-at-heart guests on your big day. Keeping them entertained can be tricky but keeping in with the Easter theme can provide opportunities for fun activities. Why not set up an Easter egg hunt around the reception venue that guests of all ages can take part in and enjoy together! This will then take the pressure off you running around on your big day and meeting and greeting your many guests all at once! And if you’re feeling that extra bit daring then why not try an egg painting competition and get everyone involved from grandma to grandson, it’s sure to be a hit!
