Hotel Maiyango Environmental Policy

As a small business we recognize and take our responsibility to the environment and the local community seriously. We strive to have a positive impact on both and we ensure all aspects of our operations adhere to this principle. We carefully consider suppliers who share our values and we ensure we are always able to offer the best and most environmentally friendly products to our guests.

Amongst our employees, we have an active ‘Green team’ to ensure that our hotel runs as ‘greenly’ as possible. They enthusiastically keep us all in check and constantly strive for ways that we can have a more positive environmental impact, they look at ways to reduce our energy consumption, our waste and identify where we can source greener products.

Transport

Leicester has a fantastic location in the heart of the country with excellent public transport links. There are two park and ride schemes that operate in Leicestershire and the drop off point is adjacent to the hotel. The train station is a 10-12 minute walk away and there are many bus stops surrounding our hotel.

In our bedrooms

We use a reputable ‘green’ laundry company.

For more than one night stays, we only change towels upon request.

Our feedback forms offer our guests an option to give us tips or ideas on how we can improve our services or be more ‘green’.

Paper and glass are recycled.

High quality recycled paper products are used in the bathrooms.

Our Cowshed toiletries are environmentally friendly and are presented in recycled packaging which reduce plastic waste.

An organic, ethical range of teas and coffee is provided.

Food and Beverage

We source locally using seasonal produce wherever possible.

Fish is always from sustainable sources.

We purchase organic produce from independent farmers/producers where possible and as directly from the source whenever possible.

Used cooking oil is collected and converted to bio fuel.

All our suppliers provide excellent traceability.

All glass bottles are re-used once sterilised or recycled.

The Local Community

We take an active role within the local community by recruiting locally where we can and working with local colleges to develop young talent.

We enjoy getting involved in community action programs.

We support local emerging talent including artists and performers and work with them to showcase their talent and creativity in the hotel.

We use recycled paper where possible and print only if required. All our brochures and marketing materials are available as PDF files. We do not carry out direct mail activities.

We are constantly striving to reduce our energy usage whilst not compromising on quality of service.

Energy saving light bulbs and light sensors are used in all public areas of the hotel.
